Hrdina televizní hry nepřestal být dobrým hercem. Nikdy jím nebyl. A jeho tragédie je v tom, že to nikdy nevěděl a netušil, nikdy si nepřipustil, že nemá talent. Ovšemže neměl úspěch, ale příčinu neúspěchu se domníval vidět v jiných věcech, v nedostatku příležitosti pro dobrou roli, v neschopnosti "drát se dopředu". Možná, že řada okolností a příkladů mu snadno vnukla takovou představu, tragický chyba herce Krause, tohoto duchovního dvojníka Čapkova skladatele Foltýna, spočívá v tom, že i sám sobě, svému neúspěchu podložil tyto příčiny.
